Serving the homeless
Work includes the development and delivery of a training program to prepare frontline homeless shelter staff to effectively provide support that creates an engaging, safe, and healthy environment for homeless clients. Training objectives include, but are not limited to: techniques to insure respectful and supportive interactions with program participants, assessing participant’s needs- such as mental health, substance abuse and job readiness; harm reduction and intervention with escalating clients; understanding PTSD and trauma; and knowledge of supportive services for the homeless to assist them in exiting the shelter system. It is expected that as an outcome, staff will have an understanding of the topics and be able to apply the tools associated with these topics.
